Why is horror good for you? Find out as Carissa Orlando '09 reads from her debut horror novel “The September House,” followed by a student-led Q&A on the wellness benefits of the horror genre.

Described by People.com as “complex and darkly funny," her novel tells the story of a woman determined to stay in her haunted dream house, despite what lurks in the basement. At Queens, Orlando studied creative writing and psychology. She now teaches at the University of South Carolina, having earned a PhD in clinical-community psychology, and works to improve mental health care for children and their families.

This event is co-sponsored by the departments of English & Writing Studies and Psychology. The series is made possible by a gift from Professor Emerita Emily Seelbinder to enhance the study of and appreciation for the literary arts at Queens and in our community.
